In “Dolittle,” Downey Jr. looks, acts and whispers in very much the same manner as he did in the Sherlock Holmes films. Listen, I love the nonchalant persona RDJ has developed over the years as much as the next person, but the fact that “Dolittle” is bombing with critics nationwide should not surprise anyone. As seen in the new trailer, the series is set in the Deep South ‘50s, as a Black man and woman attempt to fight off monsters whilst uncovering the truth behind the man’s family legacy. Since this takes place in Jim Crow-era America, our lovebirds also encounter rampant racism along the way. Last week I wrote that Abdelatif Kechiche’s “Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo” might finally be released in French theaters, more than four years after its Cannes premiere. Now, a French journalist is saying that this potential theatrical cut will be snipping the graphic 13-minute cunnilingus scene to just 60 seconds. Yikes. I sure am glad I extended my plane ticket at Cannes 2018 just to catch this film during the penultimate evening of the festival....

What did I miss the first time around? It’s a considerably well-made and ambitious sci-fi epic with very strange pacing and probably one of the best UFO designs I’ve ever seen on-screen. French critics seem enamoured by Peele’s film. “Nope” is being released in France today and the AlloCine score is a very impressive, 4.2 with 19 critics already counted. “Nope” is set to cross $100 million domestically this week, it’s Peele’s third film in a row to attain that mark, albeit, it likely won’t come close to the $175 million both “Get Out” and “Us” amassed....
As seen in the new trailer, in which I am quoted, this boldly original movie is about Maud, a lonely, and newly devout, hospice nurse who becomes obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patient. However, it turns out that the business of saving souls is a complicated one and Maud starts to realize that sinister forces will be inserting themselves into the equation to complicate things for her, messing up the mission she was sent from God....
